“A Nostalgia for Inertia” exhibition by Fibers Prof. Liz Sargent
Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty St. Aug. 19-Sept. 27
“A Nostalgia for Inertia” is a sculptural installation by SCAD fibers professor Liz Sargent. Carefully unraveling and re-knitting the fibers of found furniture, Sargent’s meditative yet rigorous process focuses on cycles of deconstruction and renewal. “A Nostalgia for Inertia” uncovers iconic pieces of vintage furniture from various eras, and patterns them into a renewed, complex and innovatively stunning installation that merges worn threads into layered landscapes. The public is welcome to observe the completion of the project in a “process performance” with Sargent and SCAD students Wednesday, Aug. 19, during gallery hours. Free and open to the public.
