shop local this holiday season!
as the holiday shopping season begins, we urge everyone to make a conscious effort to shop local.
my personal goal this season is to ONLY buy local. i’m not allowing myself to do any shopping at target, gap, or any of the stores i’ve frequented around holiday time in the past. their blow out sales and long hours are undoubtedly tempting. however, it doesn’t make up for the lack of quality, customer service, and the fact that without us shopping local, small businesses cannot survive. if you want locally owned boutiques to stay around, you have to make an effort to support them. and trust me, it’s worth it! so far this season, i’ve gotten some of the neatest, most original gifts i’ve ever found!
so here’s a rundown of where i’ve picked up some of my gifts so far this year…
the grateful hound
i picked up some cute gifts for my doggie here! i love this place so much. the owners there have such great taste, and the quality is impeccable. every time i stop in, my puppy requests one of their delicious homemade pupcakes! and make sure to check out the beautiful wall treatments while you’re in there.
custard is my absolute favorite boutique in savannah. tara, the owner, provides the best customer service in town. she’s always fun to chat with and is constantly getting in new, wonderful pieces for me to drool over. every time i go in there, i find things that i want!
i bought the most beautiful skein of yarn from wild fibre to knit a scarf for my sister. this is one of those stores that makes you very, very happy the instant you walk in. the overall feeling of the shop is just so warm and pleasant. you don’t have to be a knitter to appreciate this beauty of this store.
i got my christmas cards here this year! it was hard to choose which ones because each was nicer than the next. i also picked up a little notebook as a gift. so many pretty things to choose from!
there are way too many things to choose from at shopSCAD! this store sells artwork made by scad students, current and past. you can buy a sweet necklace for $20, or a painting for $2,000. another nice things about this store is that since so many different artists are represented, you can get many different styles. and since the manager has impeccable taste, it’s easy to see that only the best pieces are picked.
if you’re buying a gift for a family member or friend that’s a runner, this is the place to go! the best quality and customer service around – for all of your running needs.
this is the best spot for make-up and beauty products! not to mention massages and facials, oolala!
i’m not finished with my shopping yet, so there are still plenty of local shops that i need to check out, but this was a really good start.
it is undeniable that a sweater at a local boutique may be a little more expensive than a sweater from target, but you can’t compare apples to oranges. so rather than getting 2 pieces made shoddily and with low quality materials, look to your local shops for high quality, one of a kind pieces!
