Summer Fashion and Sewing Workshops at Fabrika

This summer we are working with the talented Denis Antoine on some Summer Fashion and Sewing Workshops here at Fabrika!  Below you will find information about the instructor, plus class details.  And remember, all workshops will be held here at the shop.

Denis Antoine
Denis is an award-winning Fashion Designer and Instructor. Prior to relocating to Savannah to teach in the acclaimed Fashion Department of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Denis ran his own couture tailoring business in London, U.K.

He is the recipient of the prestigious Best Menswear Collection and Best Collection of the Year award from Graduate Fashion Week, a national competition celebrating rising U.K. Fashion talents.

He earned degrees from two top fashion institutions, the London College of Fashion and the Royal College of Art.

Denis has also been fortunate to intern with Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen prior to developing lines for companies such as Topman, Oki-Ni and Ermenegildo Zegna.

All summer workshops will be limited to a maximum group size of 5 participants, offering extensive time for one-on-one feedback and guidance. All workshops require a minimum of 2 participants to run.  Each series meets once per week in order to give participants time in between sessions to develop his/her work and make the most out of each workshop.

Develop your own Digital Prints for Fashion
(3 classes)- starts Tuesday July 24th, 5:30pm – $120

This workshop introduces the key principles and uses of digital prints in Fashion. The first session will introduce the main techniques and applications, while following meetings will allow participants to develop and present a small range of unique prints of their inspiration.

Requirements:
A basic comfort level with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is highly recommended for successful participation in this workshop series. Each student will need to bring in their own laptop computer to be able to follow demonstrations and practice techniques.

Exploring Fashion Embellishments
(3 classes)- starts Wednesday July 18th, 5:30pm – $120

This workshop series investigates the use of a multitude of surface embellishments and decorations in Fashion. The sessions will touch on techniques such as embroidery, beading, pleating, trapunto, appliqué, and lace work.

Requirements:
The workshops will require each participant to explore the techniques through practice. This will require use of materials such as a variety of fabrics, embroidery and beading supplies (embroidery ring, needles, threads and floss, beads, scissors), batting for trapunto, and lace.

Necessary supplies can be purchased from Fabrika during the workshop session.

Beads for the beading session can be purchased from Perlina  during the workshop session.

Tailoring
(5 classes)- starts Thursday July 19th, 5:30pm – $200

This hands-on series of workshops presents the key principles of tailored garment construction, following a hybrid production process (mixing fusible interfacings and hand structuring). Participants will be expected to follow along the demos with the construction of a tailored jacket of their design.

Requirements:
Skill level: The material covered in this series of workshops will require participants to be confident sewers and/or dressmakers. Participants should plan on bringing in their own sewing machines if they can.

Materials include: 2.5yds of 100% wool suiting, non-fusible lightweight hymo or chest canvas, fusible weft interfacing, undercollar canvas, shoulder pads, shoulder head roll (1yd), rayon/viscose lining, buttons (for cuffs and front), pocketing, sewing threads.

All materials will be available to purchase from Fabrika.

3D Engineered Pattern-Making
(3 classes)- starts Friday July 20th, 5:30pm – $120

Creating exciting runway pieces goes beyond following the basics of pattern-making. This workshop will explore advanced pattern development methods used for the creation of complex 3D Engineered styles.

Requirements:
Skill level: The construction level covered in this series of workshops will require participants to be confident sewers and/or dressmakers. Participants should plan on bringing in their own sewing machines if they can.

Materials: Muslin, sewing equipment (fabric scissors, sewing threads, bobbins and bobbin cases etc), pattern paper and pattern-making supplies (rulers, pencils, paper scissors masking tape)
